The Free English School Programme (FESP) was founded in 2005 with the help of both international and local friends. The aim of the project is to provide free English classes to children in village communities. In a period lasting thirty years, Cambodia endured a civil war. Many schools and other public structures were destroyed. Many of those who were killed or injured in landmine accidents were the parents of the present younger generation of adults. The war was a major disturbance to the agricultural industry and production of rice. This caused much poverty and hardship for the people. Education for the children was not a priority or a viable choice for parents to consider. The most important this was daily survival. The situation in Cambodia has now changed. New opportunities are opening up and the tourist industry is steadily developing. Unfortunately, the knowledge and skills of many local workers is not high. It is important to improve this situation so that young people can obtain successful employment in the future. Learning English would significantly improve this prospect, as it is the international language when applying for local employment positions. FESP can make a positive contribution to the lives of young Cambodian people. It provides required services including a teacher and class materials. Your support would be most valuably and kindly appreciated.
